In the past week, I mused about how much city sounds interest me. Not the white noise of the lights and building infrastructure. Not the door slams, the sirens, or the shouting.
But the noises that carry through out a cement jungle such as crowd cheers, live music, and even auto racing that the community shares. City sounds. Sounds of the city.
One of my favorite city sounds are old school bells. Church bells. City hall bells. These bells have been a shared community sound-experience long before the 20th Century and all of its audio technology.
Here’s an example of shared city sounds from this past week:
