15-years Ago I Drifted the Mississippi

That might be one of the weirdest statements I’ve ever posted.

But it is true. I drifted with Pheng Moua and Eric Field from Wisconsin to New Orleans.

100-Day epic adventure by any standard.

Got out of the military. (1st Rock!) Took a journey. 100-day nature adventure.

Talked two of my civilian friends in to it.

Pheng “Red Dragon of French Island” Moua and Eric Field, also from Wisconsin.

We set out on this journey, started by John Napier from Utah.

For whatever reason, Napier went to Lake Itasca with a canoe and then navigated down to the Twin Cities area and then built a shack boat called the “Don Quixote.” His journey got hung-up in Red Wing because the peskiness we call winter in November in Minnesota.

How did we get connected you might ask?

Answer: the internet.

I was visiting my brother at St. Cloud State. The St. Cloud University newspaper told me about Napier’s journey.

He passed by a week ago and gave contact information.

I reached out to the email link (not typical at this time).

“John! When you make it to La Crosse, Wisconsin on the Mississippi River, give me a call!!!!”

I didn’t have much to offer, but probably more than he had.

Shower, laundry, food, knowledge of the community,… etc. It goes a long way as a host.

Anyways, I’m not hear to give away all of my drifter knowledge (you should probably buy my books), I’m hear to tell a tale that 2 other muther f@ckers Pheng Moua and Eric Field stepped up to go on this insanely epic journey.

Also, Suno might be great AI software to tell this tale. Feel free to give comment below in the chat
