Drifting the Inter-webs: Hype Fan

A lot of you are misusing the power of social media.

….Posting on message boards like you are a Russian disinformation call-center.

…trolling.

…writing to cause negative reactions just to get a reaction.

Shame on you.

Do the opposite of “trolling.”

I don’t know if the inter-webs has a word for posting positive social media messages to strangers yet, but there needs to be an antonym for “trolling” on the inter-webs.

“Hype fan” is a positive term that comes to mind.

Instead of bringing someone down in life, you use creativity and knowledge to bring people up.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have enough dark humor and sarcasm to make a dead man laugh, but I don’t think it is the most admirable quality in making everyone smile. There are appropriate times (such as in the infantry) that you crack dark jokes and say the most outrageous stuff to help cut tension and stress, but overall this low-ball messaging needs to go.

One channel that I have been trying to help hype is “The Truth Swagner” and his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Truth has been hosting live-streamed NFL watch parties this year on YouTube. He doesn’t have the biggest audience, but I’ve enjoyed following along his broadcasts.

I try to contribute good message board content when I can for the Swagner because he’s working on being his authentic self as an announcer with a small audience.

Today, The Truth posted a video update for this upcoming 2022 NFL Super Wild Card Weekend. Some of his material will be shown on ESPN this weekend.

That’s the good word I like to hear as a hype fan!

Good work Joey “The Truth” Swagner!

Search “Joey Swagner” online this weekend and see how he does.

“The Yeti” by Clutch

One of the great rock songs at the end of the 20th Century. The lyrics tell the tale of meeting up with a great creature from both the Yeti’s perspective and the human’s perspective.

The song makes one wonder, “what would I say if I met up with a human?”

These guys keep the rock rolling.

Lyrics:

“Standing waist high in snow

What brought me here I do not know.

Sky is filled with starry scenes

Of heroes and their greatest deeds

Himalalya is my old time stomping round.

Drifter Radio re-Quest: Clutch

Drifter Radio has been somewhat of a “music quest” or “quest with music.” Last night, Berg went on a foosball quest in Portland. He reported that when he got there somebody was playing Clutch’s “Promoter (of Earthbound Causes).” We are both huge Clutch fans. He was in the “musical quest” ethra.

This website will be posting up music and videos. If you have a music “re-Quest moment” let me know.

Here’s “Promoter (of Earthbound Causes) of the Blast Tyrant (2011) album:

Vid-19

When I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 2000, philosopher Dr. Miller from UW-La Crosse told us:

“Human health is the biggest philosophical problem that will need to be solved in the 21st Century.”

He wasn’t wrong when you consider we have some health problems including the lack of a national health care system, pharmaceutical company influence of politicians, environmental degradation, and the COVID pandemic.

I have to admit I probably over-social distanced in my years way before COVID-19 hit the scene. As a Midwestern white male, I’ve even kept my distance even from my parents. Hugs always seemed awkward especially during a typical cold and flu season.

However, I have recognized in this “season 3” of COVID-19 (“Ominicron”) is that social distancing has it’s own risks both financially and health-wise.

The human condition requires interaction for individual health and well being.

Human contact is medicinal. Hugs are medicinal. Sharing positive experiences is medicinal.

We are social beings that are hard-wired for human interaction and contact. We grew up being held. We grew up interacting in close quarters with other humans.

Some of the potential side-effects caused by social distancing:

  1. Depression
  2. Anxiety
  3. Over-use of meds
  4. Over-use of drugs
  5. Obesity
  6. Loneliness

All 6 of these things can contribute to the largest health issues of heart attacks, cancer, and stroke. All of these health risks should be considered in how much we give up our social-humanity when trying to prevent COVID spread.

The other thing people are failing to consider in terms of lockdown is that heart attacks, cancer, and strokes have had little media attention because of how much money has been pumped into COVID advertising. These large issues have been overshadowed initially because the VID was unknown to what it meant for death counts; it was potentially a disease that could kill you immediately.

As it turned out, the majority of people that have died over the three seasons had one or more preexisting health conditions such as obesity, breathing issues, heart issues, etc. The VID was just finishing off people that the health care system failed to help to begin with.

Now, as the virus loses its grip in it’s third season, it is time to move forward and stop the fear-mongering of the VID. Yeah, it sucks that VID is another part of our reality, but I can’t take it seriously at this point. We need to get back to talking about the bigger health issues that our county and world face.

Happy New Year 2022: Football Watch Partying!

I’ve enjoyed tuning into to strangers’ YouTube live podcasts. The concept of “watch party” is new to me.

Watched the New Year’s Day 2022 Rose Bowl hosted by The Truth Swagner announcing from his Steeler’s Man Cave.

Rented some advertising space for DrifterRadio.com on his back monitor:
